Awesome new progress reports!
The final feature that we planned to implement before the launch (!) at Bett 2017 is complete, and I am maybe even more excited about it than I was about moderation.
You now have access to a fully featured query engine that lets you drill down into specific student groups and track progress. You want to compare how Year 11 is performing compared to year 7 versus the whole school? Easy peasy, lemon etc:
You want to compare how year 7 EAL history students are progressing against literacy objectives with how they are doing in science? You only need to think it and it is so! What's that you say? You want a nice line graph that maps it all out for you against a baseline? Why certainly! Your assistant head prefers raw data so she can make her own infographics? We have you covered.
The query engine means you can filter student progress by a whole range of student, subject and skill characteristics. So, if a key group for you is lower income white boys, or G&T bengali speakers in year 8, you can pinpoint their progress against all or any of the skill groups that you will be familiar with from rubric creation elsewhere within SmartRubric.
Here's all you need to do:
Step 1: Find 'Reporting' in your admin menu
Step 3: Finish filling in your query - add whatever parameters you want to define the student groups and the kind of progress you want to compare.

Step 2: Start to build your query. Select a start date and an end date, and name your lines something descriptive and sensible.

Step 4: Execute your query by pressing the big friendly green button. Just FYI, this is a 'read-only' function, so feel free to play around with it. You can't accidentally change any data or anything.
If you want to change the parameters of your query, just hit the yellow button or scroll up & adjust your query. |
Step 5: Once you are happy with how your chart looks, you can print it or and export the data.
Just like every part of SmartRubric, we've tried to get the balance of flexibility and ease of use right. Hopefully we did, but if there's something you would like to see that isn't here, just drop us an email.
A final note about the scale: Because it's possible to mark students at the same school against a range of different scales (1-9, percentages, grades, levels), SmartRubric always uses percentages when drawing comparisons like this. As a point of principle, we always give you a baseline -- something to compare your progress data to. We want data to be meaningful. In the query engine, the baseline will be 'All progress types, all students', but you can optionally configure it to represent a specific year group. There's a checkbox next to the 'End Date' field.
